![]() This week Veteran Affairs Secretary McDonough announced that the VA and its partners will provide housing for ALL veterans currently at the Brentwood encampment by the end of the month and has committed to housing an additional 500 veterans in Los Angeles by the end of the year. This is great news! (You can read Rep. Lieu's press release here). This shift in policy, along with other measures to assist these veterans, will hopefully address the plethora of issues important to everyone's well being and safety.
Senior Lead Officer Matt Kirk advised BHA at its meeting this week that LAPD is committed to helping with the relocation of these unhoused individuals and has been working closely with the LA Sheriff Department and specifically their HOST team. As we reported before, by November 1, all individuals will be housed and the area cleaned up. Officer Kirk advised our members to stay away from the area as NB San Vicente in that area will be closed to help facilitate the relocation and clean up.
Once the area has been cleared, LAPD will stay involved and notify the Sheriff of any new encampments or issues so outreach can continue and the area maintained.
Thank you to the hundreds of members who wrote the City Planning Commission in advance of yesterday’s hearing about Mount St Marys.
Here is our submission, crafted by some members of our volunteer board.
We will provide more information about next steps in the future.
