Did you know that Memorial Day was originally observed to honor fallen soldiers in the Civil War and dates back to 1868? It wasn’t until 1971 that Congress passed an act establishing the last Monday of May as Memorial Day. (Learn more about the history of the holiday here).
This holiday has special meaning for Brentwood since a long and valued member of our community has been the West Los Angeles Veteran Affairs. Established in 1888, the first western campus of the VA contained a hospital, barracks, a mess hall and cemetery. You can learn more here. Thank you to all who have served our country, including our long standing board member Donald Keller.
