Opportunity to Support Los Angeles Fire Department Did you know that the LAFD -
responds to approximately 1,500 emergency calls per day
- has over 106 neighborhood stations across 471-square miles
- has over 1,000 LAFD firefighters and paramedics on duty at any given time
Unfortunately, 97% of the fire department's budget goes to personnel, with only 3% left to cover other needs. The LAFD Foundation is a non-profit organization that was created by civic and corporate leaders in 2010 to supplement the fire department’s budget by providing first responders with essential equipment, new technology, and educational resources that would otherwise go unfunded.
The Foundation has raised millions of dollars for equipment and gear that keep LAFD firefighters better equipped and safer. This year, the Foundation is funding a much needed helicopter for the LAFD. Recently, they provided funding so that the Alert Wildfire cameras could be installed at the tower at Vicente Park at the top of Mandeville Canyon. Renovations to Start this Summer
Wilshire Boulevard Temple is scheduled to start renovations of the former University Synagogue building this summer, with the goal to complete the work by High Holy Days 2023. The work will include updating the exterior and interior of the building with an extensive renovation, which will require closing the building to all operations. No alterations will be made to the footprint of the building or the parking lot. The building will be named after the lead donors and will now be known as the Wilshire Boulevard Temple Lynda and Stewart Resnick Campus and the Wilshire Boulevard Temple Lynda and Stewart Resnick Early Childhood Center.
