GRAND THEFT AUTO AND BURGLARIES
At our monthly meeting Tuesday, Senior Lead Officer Matt Kirk said that burglaries and grand theft auto are still on the rise in Brentwood. Case in point. This past Sunday a member's car was stolen at noon from their driveway. A non-household member left the keys to the car after using it on the side of the house because the homeowner had run out for a second. Within an hour, someone had walked in, taken the keys and stolen the vehicle. Even if you are only going to be a minute, DO NOT LEAVE YOUR CAR UNLOCKED OR YOUR KEYS IN OR NEAR THE VEHICLE! If you are a victim, many incident reports can be filed online. If you cannot get through to the West LA Police Station or the non-emergency police line, you can always go to the station in person to file a report. Visit our website for those numbers and address.
SEE SOMETHING SAY SOMETHING
Yesterday morning at 5:45am a former BHA board member was driving west on San Vicente Blvd when he noticed and smelled smoke. He had an appointment to keep, but circled around to try and find where the smoke was coming from. He called 911 and reported what he saw on S. Cliffwood. Firefighters arrived and determined that it was a fire and called for back up. Tragically, a 92 year old woman was found dead in a bedroom on the first floor. There were no functional smoke alarms in the house. Please, make sure your smoke alarms are working and if you have elderly parents that live alone or if you have a neighbor that is elderly, please make sure they have smoke alarms that work. The cause is under investigation. Sign up for LAFD alerts so you can be prepared and informed.
