822-824 Kenter Canyon Hearing

According to its promotional material, this four-story, 28,000 sq ft "mansion" will feature an 80-foot infinity pool along with 10 bedrooms, 22 bathrooms, a library, home theater, gym, three home bars, wine cellar, spa, game room, and a nightclub.

The structure is being built on a long hillside plot that hovers over Leonard Road and is visible from many points around the canyon on Hanley Ave, Kenter Ave, Kenter Way, and Bronze Lane.  A group of concerned neighbors, under the name “Friends of Kenter,” believe this project should not have been authorized in its present configuration and have appealed the permits issued by the LA Department of Building and Safety (LADBS).  In October 2022, Councilman Bonin filed a 245 Motion with City Council that asserted jurisdiction over this matter in response to the neighbors' concerns.  The motion required a report from LADBS, which was submitted November 2023.  There will now be a hearing at the West LA Area Planning Commission on July 19 to reconsider the neighbors' appeal of the permits for this project.  If you would like more information, please see the agenda and supporting documents.

Wildlife Ordinance

In 2018, the City released a draft Wildlife Ordinance.  According to the City, "the goal of the proposed regulations is to balance wildlife habitat and connectivity with private property development thereby achieving more sustainable outcomes in the hillsides and habitats of Los Angeles."  While this ordinance only applies to the hillsides east of the 405 right now, it could be expanded to include communities west of the 405, including Brentwood.  You can review the City's documents here to learn more about it as well as this fact sheet prepared by the Councilmembers' whose districts would be affected.
