Squatters, Burglars and Robbers...Oh My!
Recently LAPD arrested individuals who had taken up residence in a home on Homewood Way, which was vacant due to upcoming renovations. A search of the home revealed items that had been stolen from other properties in the area--a bicycle, mail, even a lawnmower! The homeowner has now secured the property but LAPD asks that we report any unusual activity that may occur, especially if you know your neighbors are away.
A home on Tigertail was recently burglarized by entering through the backyard, a tried and true approach. The criminals picked the locks to the side gates, broke a window on a french door, and then crawled in to avoid detection by the motion sensors. Luckily, nothing of value was taken. Even with alarms, cameras and lights, burglars are finding ways to enter our homes. We suggest you add glass break detectors to any doors that detect glass being broken (rather than being opened and setting off the alarm). They are easy to install and your alarm company can help. In addition, you may want to consider installing locks to your side gates that cannot be tampered with and an outside motion sensor in your backyard to detect people entering during late night and early morning hours.
Last month at 4:20pm a woman was robbed after she left the ATM at the Wells Fargo on San Vicente Blvd. The thief approached her after she had removed money from the ATM. Please be aware of your surroundings and anyone who. may be lurking to attack you when you are not aware.
