Traffic Nightmare Around Kenter Canyon School Resumes

Each school year, parents who drop off and pick up their children at Kenter Canyon Elementary School block neighbors' driveways (see photo above), park in red zones and double park to run their children across the street to school.  Neighbors are unable to leave to take their own children to school and oftentimes must endure irate parents yelling at them when they politely ask them to move.  Each year the police department comes once or twice to  enforce parking and traffic violations, which improves matters for only a few weeks before parents resort to the same behavior.

Enough is enough.  For the past seven years, BHA and the neighbors of Kenter Canyon School have tried, in vain, to enlist LAUSD's help in solving this problem.  However, even simple steps like posting parent volunteers to enforce the traffic rules or reminding parents throughout the year not to park in red zones or block driveways have not been implemented.

We need your help.  Do you live on Kenter? Have you experienced these problems? Do you have children who go to school at Kenter or have friends whose children go to school there? If so, we need to hear from you.  Since LAUSD refuses to rectify this potentially dangerous situation, BHA will be looking into ways to privately enforce the rules.

Bringham Encampment Update

The Brentwood community has been in regular contact with the different agencies working to bring needed relief to those who have set up tents and camps on Bringham.  Because the encampment is on County land, and a number of the campers are Veterans, the VA is working to expedite entry for the Veterans at this encampment into various VA services.  Supervisor Horvath's office is working to expedite services for the non-Vet campers in the area, as well as to bring in clean-up services to the encampment on an ongoing basis. The Sheriffs are  conducting assessments to assist with matching campers with housing and making patrols as situations warrant.  In addition, City Councilwoman Traci Park's office was able to help two individuals with their moves into housing.

We share the community's frustration with the all too slow process of providing these individuals assistance and restoring the area, and we are working with all the relevant government agencies and non-profit agencies to help expedite a satisfactory resolution for our community and our unhoused.
