LAPD Update on Recent Protests from Captain Rich Galbadon
On November 16, Pro-Palestinian protesters marched down Sunset Blvd. to protest a Democratic fundraising event in Brentwood, attended by Vice President Harris. Police were called by the Secret Service. One week later, Pro-Palestinian protesters gathered at a private residence in Brentwood and threw smoke bombs, fake blood and other items, but fled before the police arrived. Learn more about these recent incidents and the police response in Captain Rich Gabaldon's letter to our community.
Police are providing extra patrol at religious sites within the community and providing additional resources for large demonstrations at the Federal Building and the Israeli Consulate. However, the challenge is responding quickly to spontaneous demonstrations such as these two incidents.
"We ask that the community NOT engage these protestors but to call 911 to ensure an enhanced police response. Safety of the public is always our main concern, and although the protesters have a protected 1st Amendment Right to free speech, they do not have a right to commit crimes during their protests." LAPD Crime Report from Senior Lead Officer Matthew Kirk
Residential burglaries are on the rise in our area. According to SLO Kirk, "in almost all the recent burglaries the suspects took jewelry and handbags." With the holidays approaching, it is a good time to remember these crime prevention tips: -
Make sure you place all jewelry in a safe that is secured to the ground or structure of your home.
- Make sure your doors and windows are locked with alarms armed and security cameras working.
- Make sure all packages delivered are picked up ASAP.
-
Do not leave ladders on the side of your house, since many burglars are entering from the second story.
- Call your security company to keep a watch on your house if you are out of town.
