Don't Be a Victim
In a two week period, over a dozen crimes were reported in Brentwood. The method is the same. Enter the side or back of a house. Smash glass to enter through a window or door. Go straight to the master bedroom, grab jewelry, high end purses and cash, then leave quickly. We KNOW that we are a target for these types of burglaries that are likely to occur during the day so DON'T MAKE IT EASY for them.
Take Steps To Protect Yourself
Simple things you can do right now. - make sure your side gates are always locked.
-
create a WhatsApp or text chain with your neighbors to alert each other to potential criminal activity or to help look after your home when you are out of town.
-
notify your home security company when you will be out of town to come by and pick up newspapers and to keep check on your house.
-
USE YOUR ALARM. While burglars may still enter, they will be scared away. Even if you are leaving for a minute or at 3:00pm. Always put it on.
-
make it look like you are always home with an automatic light system like Hue or Lutron that can be programmed when you are away.
-
upgrade your alarm system to remote access so if you forget to put your alarm on you can do it remotely through the app.
Extra steps you can take to increase security. - install glass break alarms with your security system or consider installing unbreakable glass or a film from a company like Campbell Window and Glass Company
-
install motion sensors that can be tripped on the side of your house and in your backyard when you set your alarm.
-
if you haven't already, install an alarm system with armed response (these companies attended our May Home Security Fair and operate within our community already ACS, ADT, SSA, Gates Security, and Moore Protection).
- Install Ring Cameras in the front, side and back of your house with lights.
-
consider 24 hour monitored surveillance cameras like Deep Sentinel that watch for activity and then contact police if you are not home.
BHA Flock Safety Cameras
Even with all of these extra security steps, Brentwood is a desirable area for criminals. That is why BHA is taking steps to make it easier to catch these criminals and make Brentwood a less desirable target. We have been working with Flock Safety on a proposal to install cameras throughout BHA territory. Currently, the City does not allow installation on public property. Therefore, we need to find homeowners who are willing to place a camera on their property at the following intersections: on the corners of Sunset starting at Canyon View on the west to Church Lane on the east; on the corners of San Vicente from Canyon View on the west to Barrington on the east.
If you live on one of these corners and are willing to install a Flock camera, please contact us at info@brentwoodhomeowners.org. |
