Latest News from CA Department of Insurance
In response to the State's insurance crisis, Insurance Commissioner Lara is taking steps to restore insurance options through his Sustainable Insurance Strategy. As many of our members know, 7 of the top 12 insurance companies have paused or restricted new business in California. Since these 12 companies comprise 85% of the State's homeowners market, the impact of these decisions is greatly felt by homeowners in Brentwood. A new regulation is being proposed as part of this strategy. Read more on how you can provide public comment on this regulation and attend the hearing on September 17.

Recent Incident at Barrington Post Office
Last week a member wrote to us that four to five tall young men, wearing fake beards and sunglasses, were harassing everyone entering the post office. In addition to yelling at patrons of the post office, the men were filming people as well as their cars/license plates. Understandably, the member was upset and reached out to us. LAPD advised us that unfortunately, this incident is part of a group that calls itself “First Amendment Auditors." They show up at post offices, police station lobbies, sidewalks as well as private businesses and harrass people so they can film their reaction, post it online and increase their views. In addition, they try and bait people to get angry and attack them so they can call the police and do a private person's arrest for battery. Sometimes they try and sue. The best thing to do is just ignore them and go about your business. If they get a reaction in a certain location they will definitely come back. You can also let BHA know so we can alert LAPD.
