Crestwood Hills Park Clean Up
A crew from LA City Department of Recreation and Parks arrived at Crestwood Hills Park this week and spent multiple days cleaning up debris, fallen branches, and trees. We will continue to work with our partners in Crestwood Hills Association and Councilwoman Park's office to make sure the park's landscaping and hillsides are maintained properly. We have reached out to Tumbleweed Day Camp and were advised trees, branches and debris from wind damage was cleaned up and that Getty, which owns the property responsibly clears debris and trims trees regularly.

Important Update to Leaf Blower Ban
Last week the County Health Department updated the ban on leaf blowers. The Order only applies to the Palisades and Eaton Wildfire Perimeter Areas as defined by the CAL FIRE and The Wildland Fire Interagency Geospatial Services (WFIGS) Group. Power air blowers may be used in all areas of Los Angeles County that are outside of the 2025 Palisades wildfire perimeter. Brentwood, west of Mandeville Canyon, is not within the perimeter area of the Palisades fire.

UCLA Experts Address Air Quality & Effects of Climate on Wildfires
UCLA's Institute of the Environment and Sustainability and its Climate and Wildfire Research Initiative is on the front lines of understanding our "rapidly evolving wildfire challenge." As part of this goal they are providing webinars and resources to help us understand what causes wildfires, the impact on air quality from wildfires, surviving the aftermath of the fire and how to better prepare and protect ourselves.
One of the key takeaways from this article by UCLA researchers on LA fires is that Wildfire mitigation should be oriented around (1) aggressive suppression of human ignitions when extreme fire weather is predicted, (2) home hardening strategies, and (3) urban development in low wildfire risk zones.
FireSafe Brentwood, BHA's California Fire Safe Council, is committed to helping all of our members do their part to achieve
#2 -- hardening our homes from fires. You can find links, tips and presentations on how to reduce the risk to your home and family from fires on our website. We hope you will attend our March 17 Annual Meeting where we will unveil our 2025 intiative-- IT STARTS WITH US |
Councilwoman Park Addresses Brentwood Concerns
This past Monday Councilwoman Park assembled representatives from the various City agencies to answer residents' concerns at a BCC meeting. A key takeaway from the meeting is that we, Brentwood residents, need to be actively involved during the City budget process. It is time the entire City Council hears our concerns. As we know from the Palisades Fire, a devastating wildfire affects ALL of Los Angeles whether it's air quality throughout the City, loss of employment for those working in the fire area, loss of property for victims of the fire and its emotional toll as well as the strain on the City's infrastructure.
The Palisades Fire highlights the critical need for better wildfire preparedness, more efficient emergency response systems, and greater investment in disaster resilience infrastructure. Our aging infrastructure and years of inadequate funding of our fire department have left our community vulnerable. |
