The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

Join us this year at our 2025 annual meeting where we will discuss the Palisades Fire with our elected officials and first responders.  Come with your questions as we talk about the good, the bad and the ugly of this catastrophic fire.  All are welcome, but you must register.  Light supper will be served starting at 6:00pm before the 7:00pm presentation.

Traffic Control Officers

The City finally heard our pleas and placed Traffic Control Officers (TCOs) on Sunset yesterday.  Thank you to Councilwoman Park and her staff for fighting to get these TCOs on our streets to help with traffic.  We are not sure how long they will be deployed but we will work to keep them as long as we can.

Single Family Homes Under Attack Again with New State Bills

State Senator Scott Weiner has just introduced a new bill, SB677, that, in his words, “strengthens SB 9… a landmark accomplishment that sought to legalize duplexes across the state and functionally end single family zoning.”  Passed in 2022, SB9 allows one single family zoned lot to be split into two with multiple homes and ADUs.

This new bill could have a significant impact on our communities, as it attempts to override local zoning codes (and the housing element guidelines we worked so hard on this last year) and make it easier to increase density in our coastal communities and  hillsides. As the Palisades begins to rebuild, this new law could increase density in a Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone, which goes against what fire science experts have concluded based on their research of major fires:    High-density housing significantly increases fire risk, as fires can easily spread between closely spaced structures.

We will need your help again as we follow this new bill and its potential to put our community at risk.
