2025 Annual Meeting

445 BHA members and Brentwood residents registered to attend BHA's annual meeting this past Monday. Over 300 actually braved the traffic to attend. After a short presentation about what BHA worked on in 2024 and what it plans in the future, attendees heard from Mayor Bass, DA Hochman, Councilwoman Park, LAFD Assistant Chief Everett, and LAPD Deputy Chief Woodyard about crime, fire, traffic and other issues facing the Westside.  If you missed the meeting, you can watch the video.

Know Your Zone

At our annual meeting, LAFD mentioned Genasys Protect, a new app and website that allows residents to find their zone in case of evacuation and emergencies.  Read more about it.  Similar to Watch Duty, Genasys Protect will allow you to use an interactive map to find your zone using your address.  You can record all zones--where you work, go to school, or where your loved ones live--and be ready if and when you need to evacuate.  Genaysis Protect will be used with emergency alert notifications from the City and County.

State Zoning Bills

There are currently two bills introduced by State Senator Scott Weiner that would increase density in our neighborhoods and move closer to ending single family zoning--SB79 and SB677.  We need your help stopping both.  Currently, United Neighbors has asked our help with SB79.

State Bill 79 will allow 65-75 ft high apartment developments in single-family and light industrial areas that are within a half mile of a light rail or bus stops. That will affect large areas of our City!

If we do not amend this bill we will not be able to stop 6-7 story apartment buildings next to our homes.  LA has plenty of capacity to build much needed housing on our commercial corridors without the need to intrude into our single-family neighborhoods.  Help us amend this bill to exclude single-family, light industrial and historic zones. Remember if this becomes State law, we cannot stop the impact of this bill.

Be sure to add your name at the end of the letter along with the area you live in.  Send these letters now.

Step 1. Send this letter to the Mayor
Step 2. Send this letter to Councilwoman Park
