Last Weekend’s 405 Closure = Gridlock — More Ahead
Last weekend, the I-405 through the Sepulveda Pass was reduced to three lanes in each direction, with multiple on- and off-ramps—including Santa Monica Blvd, Wilshire, Sunset, Sepulveda/Moraga, and Church Lane—closed. These restrictions caused significant congestion on Sunset and Sepulveda Boulevards, even during typically lighter weekend hours, and made access to and from Brentwood especially difficult. This closure was the first in a planned series of up to 25 weekend lane reductions scheduled by Caltrans as part of a major $143.7 million resurfacing project. These closures will occur every other week for the next year.
Once again, critical on/off ramps in Brentwood will be closed on Friday, September 5 at 10:00pm through Monday, September 8 at 5:00am.
If you have not done so already, please sign up for the weekly notices to plan ahead. Any ramp/lane weekend closures from Van Nuys to Wilshire will have a significant impact on traffic and our ability to move freely in our community during the weekend. How long is it taking you to travel down Sunset? Are you noticing cars on residential streets trying to avoid the traffic on Sunset? Is it taking you more than an extra 30 minutes to travel on the freeway or in your neighborhood? We encourage you to write to Lauren Walike at Caltrans to share your feedback so Caltans understands the impact and takes additional steps to mitigate it.
