Your Voice Matters—Act Today to Stop SB 79

We need your help once again. SB 79 has passed the Legislature and is now on Governor Newsom’s desk. Please take a moment to email the Governor and ask him to veto SB 79. Why?

  • Unfair Targeting: SB 79 singles out only 14% of California cities, including Los Angeles, even though these cities already have state-approved Housing Elements.
  • Unnecessary Mandates: Local Housing Elements already provide for growth and affordable housing. SB 79 adds layers of state-imposed rules that duplicate local planning efforts.
  • Unfunded Costs: The bill forces cities and taxpayers to pay for expensive infrastructure upgrades without providing funding.
  • Environmental Harm: By pushing higher density in already built-out areas, SB 79 threatens tree canopy, increases heat islands, and worsens traffic and air quality.
  • Fails on Affordability: SB 79’s so-called “affordable housing” requirements are minimal—just 7–13% of units—leaving the vast majority as market-rate. That means it will fuel density and cost burdens without delivering truly affordable homes.
