The Great ShakeOut
Yesterday was International ShakeOut Day, where millions of people practiced earthquake safety. For those of us who remember the Northridge earthquake or the Sylmar earthquake, your first instinct may be to run to a door frame. Experts now advise to drop, cover and hold on. Learn more about what do do and why here or download this brochure for future reference. Be sure to download the MyShake App for real time alerts and information.

Nightmare on Kenter
Many of you know the safety and access problems on North Kenter have gone on for years. This week, BHA formally called on LAUSD to take responsibility and be part of the solution. Our letter to the Board of Education documents repeated violations—cars blocking driveways, ignoring cones, and obstructing our only evacuation route—and the risks these behaviors pose to residents, families, and first responders. We are now working with Councilwoman Traci Park, LAPD, and LAFD to implement an enforceable plan that ensures safe drop-off and pick-up and protects emergency access. LAUSD’s participation is essential to finally resolving this ongoing and unacceptable situation. All parties will be meeting in the coming weeks to address this problem. In the meantime, we are in contact with the commanding officer of West Traffic Division who will be sending officers to help.

Alarming New Criminal Activity
Last week, three suspects assaulted a man walking along San Vicente Blvd near the Country Club. They stole his watch and fled the scene in a gray Honda Accord. This follows a similar crime in Brentwood where a woman was assaulted by multiple men who stole her diamond earrings and fled in a nearby car. These criminals may still be in the area, so please be vigilant and report any suspicious cars in your neighborhood to your local security company. In addition, recent crime statistics show an increase in burglaries from cars. Lock your house. Lock your car. Set your alarms!
