Who You Going to Call? NOT Ghostbusters!
A member recently wrote in about a neighbor who had fallen and managed to contact him for help. Given the predicament, the member called 911, and the paramedics arrived quickly from our local station. We wanted to pass along the advice the paramedics gave--do not try to lift someone yourself. Rather than risk hurting yourself and making matters worse, call the paramedics. That is what they are there for!! First Aid Training
As part of BHA's efforts to prepare our community for emergencies, we are partnering with Mt. St. Mary's University to offer a course in CPR/First Aid. This would be a good time to brush up on your first aid skills. More information will be shared after January. |
Are You Disaster Ready?
The answer for most of us is, not really. We have a go bag for evacuation, but what about earthquakes and other natural disasters? Now is the time to join your neighbors and become trained in Community Emergency Response Team or CERT. Over the course of seven weeks, you will be trained in basic disaster response skills such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization and disaster medical operations. You will learn how to prepare for emergencies, what supplies you should have in your house, how much food, how much water but most importantly, how to protect your family in an emergency!
Classes will be conducted by members of LAFD at Station 59 (Olympic/Federal) beginning March 3, 6:30pm to 9:00pm. More details will follow in January but save the date! |
