Community Advocacy Leads to West LA Crime Center Funding

Congressman Brad Sherman has secured $1,031,000 in federal Community Project Funding to support the installation of a Real-Time Crime Center (RTCC) at the Los Angeles Police Department West Los Angeles Division. Through the leadership of Los Angeles City Council District 11 and sustained advocacy by the Brentwood Homeowners Association, the funding was successfully advanced. Congressman Sherman personally called the BHA President to share the news that the grant had been secured.

The funding will be used to establish the RTCC and to invest in additional sensors and camera technology throughout the surrounding community. These tools are intended to improve real-time monitoring, enable faster identification of criminal activity, strengthen evidence collection, and support more effective apprehension of suspects. Once operational, the West LA RTCC is expected to enhance coordination between officers and dispatch, improve situational awareness, and contribute to faster response times and improved neighborhood safety.   Once operational, BHA’s license plate reader cameras will feed into the West LA Real-Time Crime Center, allowing LAPD to use the data in real time to support investigations and improve response times.

Update on BHA License Plate Readers

As previously reported, BHA identified 17 locations within our boundaries for automatic license plate readers. We are working with the City to place the cameras on City property to ensure the best possible placement and effectiveness. Seven cameras have been installed so far, and the remaining locations are working their way through the appropriate City approval channels. Once approvals are complete and a timeline provided for installation of the remaining cameras, we will reach out to our members—who overwhelmingly supported this program—to request funding and share next steps, including signage. Thank you for your continued engagement and support as we work together to enhance neighborhood safety.

Recent Criminal Activity

Last week, burglars smashed the glass window of a sliding door on N. Saltair while a homeowner was sleeping.  The homeowner called 911 and LAPD responded immediately with a helicopter and multiple patrol cars and armed officers.  The suspects ran and we are waiting for an update on whether or not they were apprehended.

Metro Board Approves High Speed Rail Project

Yesterday, the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority Board unanimously approved an underground heavy-rail alternative for the Sepulveda Transit Corridor project, advancing plans for a major north–south transit connection between the San Fernando Valley and the Westside.

The selected route would run approximately 13 miles from Van Nuys to Sherman Oaks, tunnel beneath Bel-Air and Beverly Crest, include a station at UCLA, and terminate at Metro’s E Line (Expo) Sepulveda Station. End-to-end travel time is estimated at roughly 20 minutes. The Board’s approval of a “locally preferred alternative” allows the project to move forward into further design refinement and the preparation of a final environmental impact report, along with additional environmental review.
