A College Atop Bundy

For nearly two years, the BHA has been monitoring and reviewing a proposal by Mount St Marys University to build a new wellness facility on their campus. While many of our members are not familiar with the school, the homeowners on Bundy, Norman, Chalon, Bowling Green, Saltair, Chaparal and Barrington are impacted by the many buses and cars going to and from the campus twelve hours a day. The construction and operation of a new facility could bring more cars and buses and the BHA is looking for MSMU to follow the lead of other projects by committing in writing to a reduction in street traffic before approval of the project is granted by the City. There will be more information in the coming weeks as the Draft Environmental Impact Report has just been released and we will definitely be weighing in.

Auto Burglary

Was your car cleaned out last night around 2am? This one was on north Bowling Green. If so, report it by calling 877-ASK-LAPD. On another note, Police are now asking us to email them color, make, model and most importantly license plate of any vehicle that looks suspicious on our street. A good example of such behavior might be a car with one or more occupants driving slowly up and down your street. The license information will be entered into their database and checked for matching wants and warrants.

Send emails to Officer Maria Gray at 30469@lapd.online and please copy info@brentwoodhomeowners.org. We must all do our part to keep auto burglary at what LAPD now reports has been significantly reduced compared to last year thanks to their efforts AND YOURS!

Katsuya Restaurant

This eatery loved by many of our members is looking to expand into the adjacent storefront and provide more interior and sidewalk eating areas. The BHA is not objecting but on behalf of our members on Westgate will be advocating for strict valet parking guidelines that are enforceable and periodically reviewed. You can see the letter we wrote to City Planning here.

Homeless Veteran Parking

In the next two weeks, the nonprofit agency Safe Parking LA will launch a pilot program for homeless veterans at the Veterans Administration campus on the border of Brentwood and West LA. Under the program, people living in their vehicles are assigned a place to park overnight and are provided access to social services and eventually housing. The program at the VA will be limited to veterans. Councilman Bonin spearheaded the approval and you can read more about it here.
