Livin' Large

As homeowners have settled into the effects of WAZE and the realities of traffic, their frustration has moved on to a new subject: Megamansions. Members are increasingly frustrated at the huge residential developments neighboring their lifelong homes. The complaints are usually concerning the length of construction, often two years or more, the massive grading and razing of trees and infiltration upon views and sunlight. You can read here about the frustrations and expense of our Bel Air neighbors to fight a most egregious development battle. But is there nothing you can do to protect your sanity and tranquility? The answer is yes and no, and here are some suggestions:

  • Check online for valid permits
  • Check the permits for the name of the site City Inspector
  • Report consistent transgressions by the contractor such as an unsafe or trash ridden site or work outside allowed hours.
  • If City or Property owners are unresponsive, email Councilman Bonin's team here

Make sure to copy us on any correspondence so we can help guide your effort.

Allowable Construction Hours:
Monday through Friday between 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Saturdays and National Holidays between 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Sundays, no construction except for residents

(The BHA is pursuing special consideration for Brentwood on fine tuning construction hour limitations. For instance, the 9pm out time you see above, while rarely used, is a remnant of special post-earthquake rebuilding allowances that needs to be corrected.)

Package Thieves

Area LAPD liaison Maria Gray is once again promoting two helpful hints to increase safety for your home:

  • A camera system with motion sensors which sends a message to your smart phone

  • Reporting to her the license and description of suspicious vehicles

One of our BHA board members appeared in court last week concerning one of our local auto burglars, finally nabbed by the LAPD. Hopefully, he is now off our streets for a while.
