SB50 Stalled

YOU DID IT! Nearly two hundred members responded to our call to action and emailed State leaders about their opposition to a bill which would have jeopardized the sanctity of single-family neighborhoods. We want to be clear the BHA recognizes California's need for more housing - but allowing construction of four townhomes on one lot next to your house or letting the State dictate local zoning laws is not the answer. For more information, see the LA Times article here. Thank you!

School Developments

Archer School for Girls celebrated the opening of its new 30,000 sq ft Academic Center April 13, 2019, which will be called the Diana Meehan Center.  This completes the North Wing renovation.  No date has been set for the commencement of Phases I and 2, which include the construction of an underground parking structure, multipurpose facility, performing arts center and visual arts center.

Brentwood School is scheduled to complete its 73,000 sq ft Middle School building and parking garage by July 30, 2019.  Phase I will continue on the West Campus at Saltair and Sunset beginning June 17, 2019, with completion in January 2021.  The school will be hosting a community meeting on Sunday, May 19, 4:00 pm – 5:00 pm in the West Campus Music Room to answer any questions.  Please RSVP to bwscampus.com/wcconstruction.

The Final Environmental Impact Report (FEIR) for Mount Saint Mary’s University (MSMU) 38,000 sq ft Wellness Pavilion has not been released.  At a meeting with the school a few weeks ago, we were told that the FEIR is delayed and there is no definite date on its release.  The School, however, informed us that they have made changes to the project, which will be outlined in the FEIR, that will eliminate several impacts of the project. BHA representatives reiterated their concerns regarding traffic, intensification of use, enrollment and the lack of a robust, mandatory transportation management program by MSMU and what the School is doing to address them.

If you are going west on Sunset this Sunday and see a commotion around Mandeville Canyon, be advised it is just an evacuation drill they have planned in conjunction with LAFD and LAPD. Best to avoid the area if possible. The drill evacuation portions runs from 10am to 11am. From 11a to 1p, there is a Public Safety Fair if you're able to make it over there.
