Law enforcement and disaster management officials from across the State have repeatedly encouraged us to promote community awareness and preparation. In addition to security cameras and alarms, police tell us neighbors on the street walking dogs and just hanging around discourage burglars who definitely don't want to be seen. Similar notes come from officials talking about "The Big One." They encourage neighbors to discuss preparedness and have a plan for communicating during a natural disaster. Remember, single family neighborhoods are last on the list for first responders who will be busy in multi-family zones and commercial districts. Take the step to get to know your neighbors, for your safety and theirs!
