Coral Trees Gophers. Disease. Climate. All are taking a toll on the Coral Trees on San Vicente Blvd. The second of two forums was held Sept. 7 to discuss how to enhance their existence. There is no truth to the rumor that the trees will be cut down. Rather, participants including a certified arborist, an LA Urban Forestry supervisor and Santa Monica managers responsible for planting and pruning their Coral Trees, discussed the best practices going forward. The general consensus was to continue replanting Coral Trees after gopher containment while studying possible compatible trees to help regulate the climate in years to come. The Coral Trees on San Vicente were designated a Cultural Heritage Monument in 1976.
