Trash Day For those in the evacuation zone, your trash will be picked up on your regular trash day. For most of you, that is next Tuesday. Unlike regular trash days, you may leave additional bagged garbage on your parkway, adjacent to your trash bins and that trash will be picked up too, that day or the next. For faster service, report bulky item pickup here on Monday and Tuesday.
Emergency Responder Support As we have mentioned, the BHA on your behalf has been providing meals several times a week to our firefighters at Station 19 on Sunset. In addition, individual members have given meals and furnishings to help update the firehouse. Later this month, we will suggest all the ways we can support the police, firefighters and emergency crews that saved the day. We are looking into not only the LAFD firefighters fund, but also a GoFundMe page where you can give directly to Station 19 and other sites for police officers. Please give us some time to sort through the absolute best channels.
Mount St Mary's University Evac The BHA is very concerned about reports about the lack of an effective evacuation plan at Mount St Mary's University atop Bundy Drive. As the LA Times reported this week, the students at Mount St. Mary's received a knock on their door and quickly walked out of the campus and down the road in darkness, where some were picked up by ambulances. We are told they did not have access to any campus transportation. The BHA board is concerned that MSMU's emergency plan was inefficient and lacking, during an active fire threat. We will be contacting neighbors and working with our City Council Office to determine exactly what did and did not happen.
Were You Ready? For nearly a year, we have been urging our members to heed the warnings of emergency service professionals, including two lectures we sponsored in the past twelve months. PLEASE take time to read this very basic safety site from LAFD:
READY SET GO
On Nov 9 at Paul Revere Middle School at 10:00, Councilmember Bonin is hosting a Fire Debriefing Session. Please consider attending. You can find more information HERE.
A Special Note to our members south of Sunset: Thank you for your patience and understanding as we sent out a barrage of emails and texts regarding the evacuation. We hope you found it helpful to get the latest information and while we acknowledge the lesser threat in non-hillside areas, we hope you also heed the warnings of LAFD about how easily fires can spread.
