Budget Cuts = Less Police & Longer Response Times We need your thoughts and help for the second time in two weeks. As a wave of policing reforms sweeps the nation, there is a risk of throwing the baby out with the bathwater.
LA is currently in discussions to cut $150 million from the LAPD budget and will vote early next week. Captain Jon Tom, commanding officer for our area, is very concerned these cuts will result in fewer patrol officers and increased response times.
Please let City Council and the Mayor know you are opposed to cuts which will put life and property at risk.
Two years ago, Councilmember Bonin attended our annual meeting to discuss his 10 Point Plan to increase police presence in neighborhoods. He has now changed his stance and supports budget cuts that would eliminate 35 basic cars. Basic Cars keep our community safe because they are assigned to our neighborhood and can respond quickly. The BHA recognizes nationwide concerns with policing and supports expeditious and effective improvements. We encourage the use of funding provided by voters for mental health and drug abuse programs for new and effective programs combatting homelessness and crime.
