Encampment and Beach Feasibility Thank you to the members who took the time to write to our council members in support of our motions to properly address the homeless encampments. Despite strong opposition from BHA and many others groups on the Westside, Councilmember Mike Bonin’s proposal to conduct a feasibility study to use beach parking lots, parks and other public spaces for temporary homeless housing passed its first hurdle with a vote of 4-1 by the Los Angeles City Council’s Homelessness and Poverty Committee. The BHA and others feel the beach and parks should not be on the table, when there are many other options. The next step is a full City Council vote, expected by the end of the month. If passed by the City Council, the matter will be referred to the City Administrative Officer to conduct a feasibility study (timing TBD). BHA will continue to update you as the proposal moves forward. This article provides some additional information.
