SB 9 and SB 10 Statewide Town Hall

Saturday, Aug 7, at 10:00am

The BHA and homeowner groups all over the State are working against the legalized end to single-family neighborhoods. Legislators in Sacramento like Scott Weiner are repeatedly introducing bills that would allow multi-family units on traditionally single-family lots, but voters have thus far defeated them.

This Town Hall will give you information on the impact of these destructive bills and actions you can take to stop them.

Legislators have heard overwhelming opposition to SB 9 and SB 10 from thousands of people. But unless legislators get an avalanche of objections before Aug 16, both SB 9 and SB 10 could be approved by just 41 legislators. And right now, big money talks in Sacramento.

SB 9 lets developers buy the home next to YOURS to build 6-unit housing projects. They won’t have yards OR garages. There will be NO public hearings before destruction begins.

SB 10 “allows” city councils to override local zoning, and the California Environmental Quality Act, and voter-approved land protections, to erect 14-unit buildings almost everywhere.

  • No hearing.
  • No open-space requirements.
  • No affordability component.

You must voice opposition NOW, because you lose your right to object after SB 9 and SB 10 are passed and signed by the Governor.

Neither SB 9 or SB 10 requires being ready for environmental or infrastructure impacts of the bills, such as the demand for water, energy, sewer and classroom space.

New Brentwood/Pali Field Deputy

The BHA welcomes Noah Fleishman, the new CD11 Field Deputy for Brentwood and Pacific Palisades. Noah acts as a liaison between the community and the City government. Noah grew up on the Westside in Westchester and is the proud product of the public school system. He is a graduate of the University of California, Santa Barbara with a BA in Public Policy and a concentration in Political Science and Jewish Studies. His passion for public service arose from early internships on the Westside with Councilmember Bonin, Supervisor Kuehl, and the LA County Homeless Initiative. Previously, Noah worked for a Boston-based international affordable housing consultancy with clients like the Boston Housing Authority, United Nations, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. During that time, he took a 2-month hiatus to work as a regional director for the New Hampshire Democratic Party during the 2020 general election.

A truck tipped over Friday evening on Barrington Place, closing off the street for several hours.
