The Duplex Next To You The bad housing bills SB 9 and SB 10 in Sacramento had a good week, both getting passed by the Assembly. (Assemblymember Bloom voted against the bills.) These bills will take away local control of zoning and eliminate single family neighborhoods. They will all but certainly pass out of the Senate and go to Governor Newsom's desk. He can sign them or do nothing and the bills become law as of January 1, 2022. Only a veto can save our neighborhood. Depending when the bills go to his desk, he has approximately 30 days to act. Sadly, we have heard he likes these bills. We must all call his office and leave a message.
Here's his phone number: 916-445-2841.
"Please veto these bills and leave zoning decisions in local control."
![]() Fire Danger Averted Last month a member wrote in, concerned about the dead bushes and trees on the hillside above Kenter Canyon Elementary School underneath the large power lines. Her outreach to LADWP and other City agencies asking for them to remove them yielded no response or a "sorry, not our problem." Enter Noah Fleishman, Councilman Bonin's new field deputy for Brentwood. When Noah heard about the issue at last week's BHA monthly meeting, he immediately contacted an LAFD brush inspector who has initiated the process to have the area cleaned up in the next two weeks.
