LUXE HOTEL Fails to Comply Several BHA members contacted us with complaints about a brightly illuminated sign the Luxe Hotel installed on their upper facade. We did a little digging and found out the sign was specifically prohibited and reported the situation to the Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety on behalf of those impacted members. The hotel, located on residentially zoned land at Church Ln and Sunset Bl, then requested a variance from the City. The variance was denied and LADBS issued an Order to remove the sign on May 6.
Over 90 days has elapsed and the Luxe Hotel has not removed the sign. The BHA will continue to monitor the situation and take appropriate steps to require compliance with the Order to remove the sign. Thank you to those members who brought it to our attention.
prec·e·dent noun /ˈpresəd(ə)nt/ 1.an earlier event or action that is regarded as an example or guide to be considered in subsequent similar circumstances.
While some people see issues as "not a big deal" and "much ado about nothing," it is important to follow through with enforcement of illegal zoning and land use activity, both small and large. In the decades the BHA has been on the scene, history shows ignoring any one incident usually leads to many more like it. We'd love to hear your thoughts. Write us anytime. We are here for you!
No More Free Ride
A few people were unhappy this weekend to find the parking lots just north and just south of the Post Office are no longer free. The VA, which owns both properties, has been planning for months to start monitoring those lots, after the previous operator was dismissed for conflicts in accounting. We are told the proceeds from those lots will go directly to veterans services at the West LA campus. The BHA supports all efforts to support those who served.
