Martin Cadillac Demo After carefully reviewing the proposal several years ago, the BHA urged City Planning to reduce the size of this massive development at Bundy and Olympic. Construction has now begun on the relatively intact proposal which will stand ten stories at its highest point, including 800,000 square feet of retail, office and housing space. While it is adjacent to an Expo Line stop, it is sure to add a significant amount of traffic as it parks 1,500 cars to service tenants and retail visitors and may add thousands of car trips per day to an already congested intersection. Important to note, the City of Santa Monica considered a similarly sized proposal a 1/2 mile to the west of this one by the very same company, Hines, spearheading this project. That project at the next Expo Line stop had too many negative impacts on the area and the development was ultimately defeated. Hopefully, our concerns will not be fully realized. See Our Letter
Barry Building Demo? After a tumultuous fight years ago over the development of large parcels along San Vicente, the owners fenced off the property and it now stands dormant. On Sept 18, the owners filed for a permit to demolish the Barry Building (pictured above) as it is not seismically stable in its current condition. Whether this will lead to a sale and development is yet to be determined, but that would be the presumed intention as Pacific Palisades celebrates the success of their new town center. (The BHA membership was split on this proposal, so the board took a neutral position at the time.) To read more, click here.
